Now how does it work. You must have a strong mind. If you have a strong mind you will be able to have enjoyed it or appreciate it. If you didn't get aether then you need to drink a cup of wine to get read of it. Or apple cider.

If you enjoyed it bring your friends. If you didn't enjoy it bring something close to it so you can replace it.

Contact Juggling- Greg
One of the most beautiful types of juggling... minimalism

in manipulation. Learn the basics of rolling and balancing

a ball with the world's first contact juggling teacher.

Beginning Double Staves:

Learn double staff from the ground up in this class designed for the beginner. After a thorough examination of the many myriad ways to manipulate a staff we begin combining techniques to seamlessly integrate a second staff.

Beginning Partner Poi:
Learn to spin with a friend. Partner poi is all about taking simple poi tricks and sharing

them with someone else. Learn 5 awesome moves in this class. Bring a partner or we'll provide you with one.

Beginning Contact Staff:
An introduction to contact staff manipulation with an emphasis on further learning. This class will take you through the basics of wrapping, rolling and spiraling with a staff. Hand, elbow, shoulder and neck wraps; halos and backside spirals

Intermediate Contact Staff:

We will explore taking fundamental contact moves and begin stringing them together into more complex move sequences including: conveyer belts, SNES, and Steves. We will also add a few more difficult individual moves to our contact vocabulary including: angel rolls and The Jesus.

Intermediate Poi Technique:

In this class we will explore several fields of moves that provide the foundation for many advanced poi techniques. We will cover isolation, stalls and 1.5's, inversions, flowers, antispin, and polyrhythm building up to an understanding of hybrid poi spinning.

Intermediate Double Staff Hybrids:

Bring both a set of poi and double staffs and learn twice as much! The concepts for spin and antispin hybrids are pretty much the same for both! You will learn many hybrids with only two different elements. This class will focus on full and half antispin isolation/hybrids and will give a new perspective to the hybrids you all ready know.

Fans of circus and of performance art have reason to celebrate this February: the arrival of Zirk Ubu, a new addition to San Diego’s underground arts scene. The troupe (whose provocative motto is, “Sublime Mysteries Revealed!”), brings together performers from divergent backgrounds, making Zirk Ubu difficult to categorize according to standard entertainment conventions.

While the talents of some Zirk Ubu cast members lie in circus and sideshow arts — sword-swallowers, aerialists, body-balancers, clowns — others work in expressive idioms drawn from traditional cultures. These performers specialize in storytelling through masks, shadow-puppetry, or movement and dance. Still other cast members present anarchic performance art pieces: surreal vignettes glimpsed in a peep box, or eccentric characters infused with mythological overtones.

A core value of the group is improvisation, whether it be in a modern dance interlude or a comedic give-and-take with the audience. The result, according Zirk Ubu’s mission statement, is “a theater of urban inversion, where the possible and the unimaginable dance together in the night air.”

The tightly-knit cast of twelve met while working together for the Technomania Circus, a long-standing institution in San Diego. They formed Zirk Ubu after splitting with Technomania last Fall, seeking a new creative direction.

“We’re really excited about the alchemical mix of the group,” said veteran performer and Zirk Ubu member Iain Gunn, “there’s a certain magic in the blend of talents and artistry this collaboration brings together.” “We wanted to explore a new, more experimental direction,” added cast member Mary-Margaret Mitchell “and it’s really unleashed some creative mojo for us all.”

Zirk Ubu’s premiere performance this month is entitled “Giant Bohemian Garage Sale,” and it is just that: a sale of cast members’ bizarre costumes, artwork, kitsch and knickknacks, combined with a Zirk Ubu performance. This unholy union of unbridled bedlam and shameless commerce is a fund raiser for the group, which plans to purchase improved props and equipment with the proceeds. The next show is planned for March.

Ever wonder what a mystic sword-swallower sells when he clears out his garage? Ever think what it would be like to comb through the cast-offs of a surly clown and a psychic comic? Well, here’s your chance to find out while enjoying an afternoon of unique artistry and supporting local performers as well.

Zirk Ubu’s Giant Bohemian Garage Sale will be held on Sunday, February 24, from 3-6 pm, at 4611 North Avenue in the University Heights neighborhood of San Diego. Spiritually and emotionally I believe that the universe will only bring to us the adversity that we can benefit from profit from and learn from.

I have recently found that their numbers are legion and millions of families will suffer unless we can find a way to change the present system.
I will now stake my very life on my ability to create an enormous shape-change transforming a time of despair into a time of love peace prosperity and abundance. Creating a time in which people in high places begin to act from their higher natures and extra efforts are compassionately made to create solutions for all families in crises and people who are in need.

How's the belly dance and arts scene in San Diego?

Hi All!

I'm in the process of interviewing for a job in SD and debating just how brave I am about pulling up roots to try a new city and state. Part of me has been drawn to California for awhile, but I've never had the chance to see SD. I hear wonderful things about your area, and would like to learn as much as I can about the city, the social aspects, belly dance opportunities (I'm a year in and leaning towards tribal fusion style), or other creative endeavors (I'm also an out of practice musician and potter, and make a lot of interesting costume items for dance).

So, here's a big pile of questions - feel free to answer some, all, whatever!
- What neighborhoods would you recommend that would be a relatively easy commute to Pacific Beach (30 minutes or less), dog-friendly, and safe for walking the pooch, etc? I'd like to find a place that's affordable ($1500-2000/month), pet-friendly (cat and labradoodle), and artsy-funky. Obviously, near the ocean would be great (since I'm coming from MN), but it sounds like the water would be an easy drive away from anywhere there.
- Are there any tribes dedicated to the belly dance community in SD?
- any suggestions on groups or activities there to build a new social circle?
- any other suggestions or comments on life in SD are welcome!

Moving to San Diego from Portland..... Hello!

Well, it seems I am to be moving to San Diego this fall. I will be making my first trip down via Burning Man (just rented a U-haul and will be leaving Portland via the Burn then on to SD). I am already set up with a beautiful home with an old friend and know a few great people in San Diego, but am certainly looking to network and connect with more fabulous folks. I have not been to Burning Man in a few years and am excited to rejoin the festivities and community. I will be camping with "Auroboros Freedomcommunity" whom I have been affiliated with for years.

I have lived in beautiful Portland Oregon for the last 7 years and have created quite a network of friends here, but I am also most definitely a traveler and would like to think my network is quite global as well. I am an LMT, yoga teacher, dancer and creative person... but also (what some might call a rare breed) of organized and grounded person. Currently I am in the process of creating a Life Consultation business and am mainly moving to San Diego to complete a Holistic Health - Nutritional Therapy program I am impressed with.

I have been blessed to have found a great place to live with an old friend already, but will be looking to re-establish my massage practice and perhaps seek out other interesting work... Anyone need someone to help them organize almost anything - your closet, your garage, your books, your life? I'm good at that! I'll be available by the beg of Oct.

Mainly I just wanted to reach out and say hello to change... see what responded. Check out my profile if you will... it is just a glimpse (like all of us). And just for the record... 2007 Elysium Midsummer Festival: June 22 !!!

The weekend of June 22nd - 24th, 2007, experience an eclectic mix of Southern California performers, musicians, djs and artists set under the shade of 100 year old oak trees. Tribal~SD Style Fundraiser May 12

What is TribalSDstyle you may ask? It is a (and as far as I know the only) Non-Profit tribal festival with workshops and a gala evening show. Our first event was in 2005 and we raised money for NIger and Hurricane Katrina. This year all proceeds go to benefit TrancenDance- a non-profit dance company providing dance classes for at risk youth in San Diego and the music programs of the World Beat Center. As a dancer, musician or dance supporter, you know how dance and music has changed your life. Help at risk kids to learn about dance and music by supporting TribalSDstyle.

This years TribalSDstyle will be held at the World Beat Center on Nov 10 and 11, 2007. Our featured workshop instructors are Heather Stants, Director of UTDC, Sabrina Fox, Director of Atash Maya, Sooz, Karen Tapia of Afri-belly, Laura Creatrix and Steven Eggers. More details will be coming your way.

The May Egyptian Tea Room showcase will be a fundraiser for TribalSDstyle. Our special guests are Sooz and Dave Hall. Sooz is currently a member of Atash Maya and was previously a member of Devidasi. She is also an amazing soloist, musician and downright funny! You may have taken her excellent workshop at Sameda Faire last summer! Dave is a professional musician and amazing drummer. We are really lucky to have them join us at the ETR. We are also joined by the lovely Sarah and Jennifer. There will be a raffle with lovely offerings all to support TribalSDstyle.

Tribe's response to complaint about porn on their site

A photo of a woman exposing her genitals appears every time I go to a tribe I created. Apparently, it's a photo of one of the individuals who choose to join my site. I was offended by the photo (as were others) and wrote to the content manager. I was shocked at the response I got. Tribe felt that it was OK for this woman (and others) to post pornographic photos. Tribe needs to review it's code for Conduct and Content. If the rules have changed, they need to let decent folks know. Here is the E-mail string below.

I have attached a screen shot of her. Please look at the photo of the woman exposing herself on the left side of the screen. How could you possibly think that that would be acceptable for viewers? There are lots more photos on your site just like this one, which I sent to you, which you have obviously chosen to ignore. …And I’m not looking for them, they just display when I’m searching for non-sexual-oriented content.

Is there a decent mobile mechanic around? Or a decent regular mechanic nearby?

America stuck in 1st and 2nd

1st and 2nd gear? Well, kind of. As Americans, we are taught that this is a capitalistic society and that should love money and fear sex. There in it lies a problem. We, as Americans, are so stuck in our 1st and 2nd Chakras. Some of us know what that means, some of us kind of know what that means, and others of us are saying, “Chaka Khan? I thought that was a vocal artist.”

Nonetheless, all of us are in different areas in our wonderful process/journey called life and I am trying to reach the masses with this concept. The first basic concept is to understand that we are all made out of energy. Put your hands close together and feel what is between them – something, right? If not, you may want to check other vitals. I jest. If you feel something between your hands, it’s called energy. Secondly, we have energy channels throughout our body. Some people may have heard of Meridians and more people are hearing about Chakras. The Chakras are spinning energy in our central energy channel and the Meridians are the secondary energy channels that circulate away from the central energy channel.

Again, what does Chaka Khan and speed bump medians have to do with money and sex and Americans. Well, it is believed and I can only vouch for my own experience, that if my 1st (root) Chakra and 2nd Chakra are not be flowing optimally, I may experience financial difficulty, fearfulness or have physical challenges in the lower abdominal area (reproductive issues, sexuality issues, urinary tract issues, constipation, intestinal issues, etc.). For those who are spiritual and know about Chakras, please forgive me for preaching to the choir and for speaking in very basic terminology. For those who may not be, I am hoping I am making this concept clear.

Optimally Flowing 1st and 2nd Chakras:

I learned and believe that if a person is balanced in their 1st (Root) Chakra, we would find these characteristics:

Groundedness (having a firm foundation and connection with the earth)
Physical health
Being comfortable in you body
A sense of safety and security
Stability and solidity
Right to livelihood
Prosperity
Ability to be still
Presence in the here and now

Located: In the medical terms: Coccygeal plexus or lay people terms: Base of spine

I learned and believe that if a person is balanced in their 2nd Chakra, we would find these characteristics:

Graceful movements
Ability to embrace change
Emotional intelligence
Nurturance of self and others
Healthy boundaries
Ability to enjoy pleasure
Sexual satisfaction
Passion

Located: In the medical terms: Sacral plexus or lay people terms: abdomen, genitals, sacrum/way lower back

If you have a few of these characteristics, then celebrate and be present with that and you may want to look at the areas, when you are ready. If you have none of these characteristics, there is hope. You may want to educate yourself not on business or how to be a sex therapist, but on your mind, body, spirit and emotions and how they are all interconnected and contribute to your overall health and well-being. Everyone needs a strong foundation before they can “succeed” in life. Eating, sleeping, eliminating, exercising (movement – belly dancing is fun), self-loving well are basic necessities. If we take care of the basics, the rest will flow better.

How do you get educated? Google Chakras or mind, body, spirit connections, or buy the Chakra Balancing Kit by Anoeda Judith (whom I have no financial connection to and use her book daily) for $30, go to your locate a Holitistic Health Practitioner or Energy Balancing Massage Practitioner, or take a class at your local massage therapy school. There are those of us out there who can help guide you in these areas and you get to decide what is right for you. Please note that every one is responsible for his or her, own, well-being.

Christina's Bio:
Christina was seven years old when her mom first signed her up for ballet classes. Although she did not stay with formal dance training, she has been in motion ever since, picking up informal training in many different forms of dance throughout her life.

During college Christina and housemate Seana discovered Middle-Eastern folkloric dance though a demonstration by Madison Wisconsin's Tahjah and were instantly fascinated. After graduation in 1992, they began studying folkloric style under Tahjah and within a year were performing with the Jaravellir Middle-Eastern Dancers, a troupe in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). Eventually, Christina became a teacher, and choreographer for the troupe. Shortly thereafter, she began to travel all over the midwest to teach and perform, earning recognition from both her students and her fellow dancers.

In 1994, Christina became a member of the Tribe Theatre Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (currently the Midwest Rock Opera Company). She began as a dancer and chorus member for the company, but was soon a principal actress, and, bringing her Middle-Eastern dance influence along, an assistant choreographer. After moving to Chicago, Christina began teaching a small folkloric troupe of her own within the SCA and studying Egyptian style bellydance under Jasmin Jahal in 1996. In Jasmin she found inspiration and a renewed love of the dance. She continued to study with Jasmin in the years ahead.

In 1999, Christina and her friend Wendy became curious about Tribal bellydance style and began to study with Stephanie Barto to learn more. She loved the energy and community of tribal dance and the improvisational, natural style suited her taste. Within a few months, she was performing with Stephanie's student troupe The Fringe Connection and was an occasional guest with Read My Hips at numerous venues across the Chicagoland area.

On a summer night in 2001, Christina became one of the founding members of the Blue Lotus Tribe, a troupe dedicated to the evolution of the tribal style. Her energetic, inviting dance style comes from her love of performing and connecting with an audience. "I feel that dancing is the purest celebration of the woman as an extension of the earth and its creative capacity. I am never more free or more joyful than when I am dancing." Within the tribe, Christina welcomes the challenge of developing tribal dance and expanding the troupe's repertoire.

Outside of the tribe, Christina continues to study with Jasmin Jahal and was invited to perform in her August 2002 production of "Kismet, One Man's Destiny." She currently teaches both Egyptian and tribal style dance and performs throughout Chicagoland and the Midwest

For those interested, there will be free Irish classes three times a week at the "House of Ireland" in Balboa park. Classes are two hours with a fifteeen minute break for refreshments provided. Class sizes have been between 15 to 20 students. Please attend the classes that most match your level, if you're able, but you are welcome to come to any or all of the classes.

We are still having the Henna Workshop on Thursday,
August 3rd from 6 to 10 pm. I have talked to the instructor
several times, and it is going to be really informative, but
mostly LOADS of fun. You will leave knowing how to get
your henna ready for application and will have some
experience making henna designs. We will get to do
it on one another. I've tried it before, and it wasn't
terribly hard, but it just takes a steady hand and a
desire to make something beautiful. This is a
skill that you could use to make money too.
Jennifer certainly does well with it, and it's
pretty simple to set up and do. What a great
gift to give people too....a cool henna design.

Since that time Einstein has also appeared in numerous television shows and commercials, as well as feature films and videos. He has performed for the likes of Debbie Reynolds, Carol Burnett and Michael Jackson, as well as performing with Chaka Kahn in a video for MTV. The list of colleges, high schools,civic groups and cities he has performed for is impressive.

This, is afterall, still AMERICA. Don't get too comfortable wherever you are. It is always somebodies time under the magnifying glass of politics, lifestyles, personal endeavors, religious beliefs. We are right here at the border of Mexico. I, too, believe the USA should invest more time and $$ in helping MEXICO to develop its own culture and economy; but, until that happens, we are thus. And thus, we must stand for something or we'll stand for anything!! We might as well begin to dismantle the STATUE OF LIBERTY, holding forth her torch for all "those yearning to breathe FREE".

NOTE: Interviews will be held March 2 – 4 in Mission Valley.

This summer the All-Fruit Jamba Juice team will be rolling around San Diego in the Jamba Mobile, handing out Jamba drinks and Jamba cards and raffling off weekend safe driver rides. The All-Fruit Jamba team will be making stops along the beach, outside of concerts and clubs, and maybe even the nearest house party.

The All-Fruit Jamba Juice team is looking for college age students to be the face of Jamba wherever the tour goes throughout the San Diego area. These part-time staffer will help distribute product, engage the public about the Jamba brand, take pictures of people interacting with the vehicle, and be up for hitting San Diego's hotspots while getting paid!

Requirements:
College students, minimum age: 18.
Outgoing, energetic, and professional personalities.
Background OR interest in marketing, promotions, or customer service (i.e. retail or restaurant)
Availability to work part-time from the end of March through the first week of September – promotions will usually be held on weekends.
Must have reliable transportation to various meeting spots around San Diego.

This is a great opportunity to work closely with Jamba Juice and gain some hands on experience in mobile marketing.

Compensation: $10.00/hour.

Dalia Carella is a world-renowned Middle Eastern Contemporary Dancer, Choreographer, Instructress and Global Fusion Artist.
Audiences from around the world have applauded her mystical and innovative dances and choreographies that are taken from the
tradition of the countries she is representing. Ms. Carella has delved deeply in the studies of dances from the Near and Middle East
including Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, as well as North Africa including Morocco and Algeria. Her dances are both traditional and
contemporary with a spiritual essence behind each and every movement that she creates.

Ms. Carella created her signature dance form, Dunyavi Gypsy (Roma) Dance for which she is known throughout the world. The core of
Dalia’s Dunyavi work is extensive research of the Romany trail, focusing primarily on the Roma dances of Spain, India, Turkey and
most recently, movements from North Africa. Dalia has also been performing and teaching a second style of Gypsy Rom dance,
“El Mundo”, that is evolving from her continuing studies of Middle Eastern, Andalusia and Latin dance influences. Dalia’s performance
credits include a one woman show at both New York City’s Lincoln Center’s Out-of-Door Series and the Merce Cunningham Dance
Studio: The Group Opera Company of New York City in both Carmen and La Traviata as both dancer and choreographer. Her concerts
and teaching tours led her throughout the United States, Canada, England, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.
